Narantuul market poses fire danger to customers

A task force from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has revealed that safety violations in Narantuul market have not improved since last year’s inspection.
The group conducted their annual inspection on Monday, dividing into three groups of ten that primarily examined the structures in the market. The task force gave advice to citizens, but were unable to implement fines.
The violations mostly pertain to fire hazards. The structures restricted escape routes and the products sold were themselves described as particularly flammable. Storage of products was also identified as a problem.


“There were so many violations” said Vice Chairman of NEMA D.Erdenebaatar, “the stalls in the market were built with no space in between them, which is a severe violation. If the place caught on fire, there would be no space for the fire engines to go in and out.”
“If there was an incident, a lot of people would be seriously injured. The Owners should pay more attention to the safety of their customers and vendors.”
If severe violations continue to occur, parts of the market will potentially be shut down.
