Tamara Rojo: Ballet is the brightness of life, I feel happiness from it

A State Honored Artist of Mongolia and Soloist Ballet Dancer of Boston Ballet U.S, D.Altankhuyag, who also has been recognized as one of the top eight ballet dancers in the world, established the Development Fund of Mongolian Ballet last year. This year, he brought Principal Ballerina at the Queen Elizabeth Institute, Tamara Rojo to Mongolia.
The State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Mongolia staged Giselle by Adan on January 14. D.Altanhuyag played the role of Albrecht and the role of Giselle was played by Tamara Rojo.
The following is an interview with Tamara Rojo.

-It is said that you are very familiar with the role of Giselle. Care to elaborate?


-This ballet shows two different characteristics of one person. A girl named Giselle, who is innocent and childish, fell in love with a man and she was very happy. Things change when she discovers that the man was the groom of another woman. After finding this out, she becomes angry and crazy during the first act. In the second act, Giselle changes and becomes very cautious, sensible and thoughtful.
-If you were given to a special chance to make change in Giselle ballet, what would you do?
-It is impossible. If this happened I wouldn’t be able to change anything. “Giselle” is the perfect creation.
 -What is the most important ability for ballet dancers? Technique or capability?
-Effort is very important for everything as well as in ballet. I think that 20 percent capability, 70 percent effort and 10 percent luck makes one successful.
-What do you think about the movie “Black Swan”? The main role lady is obsessed with her role and dies. Have you ever obsessed with your roles?
-I think the movie is very different from the real life of ballerinas. I heard that the sister of movie’s director wanted to be ballerina but she couldn’t make the grade. Maybe that’s why the movie was so black and negative. Ballet is the brightness of life, I feel happiness from it.
- What is your impression of Mongolian ballet dancers?
-Their technique is really good and they work very well together.
